Future
Existing design practices are in urgent need of a more balanced design approach to find ways to adapt the future conditions to the present need. The biggest challenge today is to decode the past/present continuum and research scenarios to better design and anticipate future decision options. This approach follows from Alan Kay’s powerful quote that “The best way to predict the future is to invent it.” But how do we know just what to invent? What do we miss when focusing on the future? What do we miss when focusing on projected abstract futures? What will be the most reliable drivers of concrete future change? We want to understand with designers the horizon of probable future development and its effect on their work, policy, firms, life over the next years.
